Today’s Fact : Where Badminton began ?

In Badminton, a shuttlecock is hit across a net, using lightweight rackets. Sports historians believe that Indians played an indoor game similar to badminton in the 12th century.

Badminton, as we know it, was first played in Pune , India. The game was called ‘Ponne’ . It was popular among British army officers, especially during the monsoons when they could not play outdoor games.

Legend has it that an Englishman, the Duke of Beaufort, introduced the game to his guests on a rainy afternoon. Because his estate was called ‘Badminton’ , the  game got its name. From Badminton, the game spread all over England.

Today badminton is especially popular in east and south–east Asia. Asians win many international tournaments. The Thomas Cup for men and the Uber Cup for women are compared for internationally.
